Frontline Strong Together (FST5) is a state-funded initiative supported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) that delivers comprehensive mental health and resource services to Michigan’s first responders in the position of police, fire, EMS, dispatch, and corrections, including active and retired personnel, as well as their immediate family members.

The program was established through a collaborative effort of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Police Officers Association of Michigan, and the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union. Wayne State University serves as the fiduciary agent for the MDHHS grant, with its Department of Psychiatry providing clinically appropriate, evidence-based mental health treatment at no cost to eligible participants.

FST5 offers a range of workforce development and educational services, including International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF)–certified training, continuing education credits, and department-level educational presentations. These offerings are designed to enhance awareness, early intervention, and resilience related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicide prevention, occupational stress, and discipline- and culture-related challenges unique to first responder professions.

As a state-funded program, all FST5 services are provided at no cost to Michigan’s first responders, ensuring equitable access to critical mental health resources statewide.

24/7 First Responder Resource Line

FST5 also operates a 24/7/365 confidential resource line, staffed by first responders for first responders. This line serves not only as a crisis support option, but also as a resource for guidance, referrals, and peer support for first responders and their families.
